VFW Post 2216 has been in operation since 1931, in these years, the post has accomplished many goals.
Honoring our veterans and service personnel has been our purpose for our existance and to contribute to our community. The coming year hopefully will be as successful as last year.
We constantly strive to sign up new members to keep the VFW tradition alive and to carry on where the past veterans have left off, giving credit to the WWI, WWII, and Korean Veterans who have done an excellent job in securing the future of the VFW.
The following are proposed events for the 2008-2009 calendar year:
September 28 is our appreciation day picnic being held at the post home. Food and entertainment for children and adults beginning at 1 P.M.
October the Ladies Auxiliary will hold our "Make A Difference Day"at the post home and will include food and a live band.
November will bring our annual Buddy Poppy drive starting Nov. 7th through the 9th. Also the Veteran's Day Parade and Post Open House after the parade. The date is still to be determined by the city parade committee.
December 19th, a Christmas party (to be Voted on)and we deliver fruit baskets the week prior to the 25th. Also we will be delivering Christmas presents and fruit to the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem, Va. The 31st (to be voted on) will be a New Year's Eve Dance.
February a proposed Valentines Day Dance. March 22nd will be our "ring in spring" cookout, open to the public, April a proposed Easter Egg Hunt. May a proposed Mother's Day cookout and our annual Memorial Day Program on the 25th at the Gypsy Hill Park Gasebo and the Augusta County

I want to give a special thank you to our Honor Guard for their dedication in honoring our departed veterans and for visiting local schools to present the colors and to tell our stories. Also for participation in local parades and other community flag presentations.
Thanks to our Ladies Auxiliary for their input and assistance with all events.
Thanks to QM Bob Hicks, Bingo Manager Dennis Morris and Adjutant Don hall for the excellent job they do for the post and to the Bingo workers including the Auxiliary for assisting on Bingo(Saturday) nights.
